Physiotherapy for Older Dogs Tasmania

Senior Dogs

Do you have an older dog? You may have noticed that they have become weaker in their back legs and aren’t walking as well as they once did. Or that they are having problems getting up after lying down, struggling to get in and out of the car, or have difficulty getting on and off furniture. They may have also stopped running to greet you when you get home.

As dogs age their body starts to slow down, and their muscles and joints begin to ache (I don’t know about you, but as I’ve gotten older my body is beginning to feel like this too!). Many senior dogs also start to suffer from painful conditions, such as osteoarthritis.

Canine Myofunctional Therapy (CMT) is a holistic, therapeutic treatment that utilises massage, stretching, & rehabilitation exercises to treat pain and improve mobility in older dogs. It also helps to keep your dog pain free and active as they age.

Benefits of CMT in senior dogs includes:

  • Reduced muscle and joint stiffness and discomfort.

  • Improved elimination of toxic waste, which can help reduce pain.

  • Strengthened immune system.

  • Improved joint range of movement and mobility.

  • Decreased pain, especially in arthritic conditions.

  • Increased circulation.

  • Improved balance.

  • Feeling better both physically and mentally.

“A friend recommended Nicola to me after our 12-year-old Golden Retriever, Cooper, was diagnosed with arthritis, and put on regular medication & monthly injections. Once Nicola commenced working with Cooper I noticed almost instant relief, & after a couple of treatments the injections & medication were no longer required. Nicola was patient & very caring with Cooper, & her friendly nature always put him at ease. It is obvious Nicola is knowledgeable about overall dog health, as she offered support & advice with Cooper’s diet & other strategies to support a more holistic approach to his treatment. As a direct result of Nicola’s treatment Cooper’s quality of life improved greatly during the time she treated him. I cannot recommend Nicola highly enough. I am so very thankful to her for ensuring my fur baby was comfortable & happy in his final months”.
